Try uninstalling your HP Total Care Advisor. If you can't find the application in Add or Remove Programs feature, disable the application. Press the Windows key + R and type msconfig in the box. Go to Startups tab, uncheck HPAdvisor and press OK. If you still have issues, I suggest you contact HP support.

My HP advisor says I have no antivirus found on my system. McAfee says I do. How can I be sure the Advisor is correct or Mc
Afee is wrong?

I am having the same issue with my HP advisor. I contacted HP technical support and they told me to contact Mcafee to change security settings so that HP advisor will recognize mcafee. Mcafee confirmed that it is fully protecting my computer and even is allowing full access to the HP total care advisor. They said it is not a Mcafee issue. It is indeed an HP total care advisor issue. I found one forum where somebody stated that HP total care advisor only recognizes Norton(which is preinstalled on HP computers) They said that HP advisor does not recognize Mcafee, WindowsOne, etc. I don't know how accurate that information is but i'm starting to believe it. I think it's crazy that HP total care advisor will not recognize Mcafee even though Windows Security Center recognizes it and Mcafee is one of several antivirus programs that Windows suggests using. If you get any answers please post. thanks

I suggest you update the USB drivers. Press the Windows + R key combination, type Devmgmt.msc and hit Enter. Go to Device Manager > Universal Serial Bus controllers, right-click on the utilities and press Update Driver Software. Select the Automatical option and press OK. Also, you can go to the HP Consumer Support web page. Select your Compaq Presario PC model, press the Drivers option, choose Windows XP as an operating system, download and install the provided files. If the problem is not solved, try connecting the MP3 Player to another computer. If it is also not recognized, it means that the device has a problem and you will need to contact its provider.

I recently had to super-sleuth my way through a variety of PC problems until discovering that one of my RAM cards was faulty. I have an HP Pavilion dx6650us Notebook PC (with Duo processors), 32-bit OS, running Vista Home Premium. While restoring my hard drive (before I discovered the hardware problem), I noticed that recently installed updates were not registering with HP Advisor. HP Health Check won't update and shows 3 alerts continually: one of the critical maintenance updates is for Windows driver updates and Vista SP1; another (of medium concern) is a Realtek High Definition Audio Driver; the last notifies me that the phishing filter is turned off. If I use the wrench icon to repair the phishing filter, the notice will go away until the next time I access HP Total Care Advisor.

The audio driver can be re-installed, though part way through installation it notifies me that this file already exists on the PC and asks if I want to overwrite it (yes, I have even over-written it trying to get this resolved). By the way, I was able to successfully install driver updates and Vista SP1 by reading various tech blogs and installing Windows System Readiness Pack Tool KB947821 before installing SP1. I contacted HP support chat online for assistance with SP1 (they didn't seem to know that for only 1 computer I should be installing directly from Windows Update instead of installing the commercial version which is a much larger file). Likewise, when I chatted with HP about the HP Advisor sticking problem they passed me from tech to tech until one advised me to re-install HP Total Care Advisor via a non-HP site. I uninstalled my sticky Advisor and tried, unsuccessfully, to install the new program. I ended up without the Advisor at all, though I still have Windows Update and HP Update. I figure it is a blessing in disguise.

Companies nowadays tend to send you from one tech to another until someone has a different opinion. The problem is that HP Total Advisor is an independent software which works outside the system's functionality. In short words, it;s just an application that gets information from Windows to display alerts and any other updates. To avoid all the complication with tech support, simply use the software package provided on the Drivers Support page for your product and perform a simple re-install. You could also install the application with Run as Administrator. It has proven that this simple method fixes a lot of problems.

The answer is No. Both applications have the same main functions: protection, security, optimization, but Windows Live OneCare has been discontinued by its developer and it is no longer supported. For this reason, I suggest you to keep HP Total Care Advisor and to uninstall Windows Live OneCare. You can remove it using Add or Remove Programs feature. Go to Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, select the application and click on Uninstall.

After that, try running AdwCleaner to make sure that there are no leftover rogue registry keys or toolbars in your system.
